Dear Ones,

In the past several months of Family News, you’ve seen several of our FMM family members express their desire to come to visit “Home Base” and, no doubt, many of you have been praying with them (as we have) that our God would make a way for that to happen.  In fact, this month’s News is filled with the story of their great hope and anticipation for this trip.  But by the time February News was ready to be published, we had received the news that visas were not granted.  You’ll read more of these dear people’s broken dreams and their godly responses in next month’s Family News.  For now, I’d like to share with you a few thoughts on my heart.

First of all, when we face disappointments or broken dreams, it’s important to acknowledge the truth in all aspects of the situation.  I find it best to ask myself questions.  In other words, take an inventory of what’s going on in my own heart and mind.

  • Is it true that I had a dream that’s just been lost? If so, was that dream from the Lord or from my own desires?
  • Is it retrievable or irretrievable? Or do I even know yet which it is?
  • What could God’s purpose be in allowing me to dream this dream and then allowing it not to be fulfilled?

There are, of course, many other questions we can ponder and the Ruach HaKodesh (Hebrew for Holy Spirit) will be faithful to show us what we need to see and process, which will often lead to repentance for presuming we knew what was best, followed by praise and worship to our all-knowing, gracious and faithful God for orchestrating what was really best for us and for His purposes in our lives – and in the lives that He allows us to interact with day by day.

Many years ago I read the book, Dreams Lost & Found, by David Shibley.  There’s a chapter in the book which likens our lost dreams to the alabaster box we read about in Luke 7:37-38.  These are some thoughts from that book that have ministered to my heart through the years:

“There is something about volitional worship in the midst of pain that is especially precious to God.  Job’s first response to the announcement of inexpressible loss was to rend his garment and worship.  It was a willful act.  Job could not possibly have known it at the time, but that decision to worship in the midst of unspeakable agony was his first seed sown toward full restoration… Your greatest therapy in pain is to connect with heaven.  Your sacrifice of praise will ascend as sweet incense before the Lord… Far from being hypocritical, the willful worship of [our] sovereign Lord was impeccably genuine.  [Our] sacrifice of praise was the faith-filled acknowledgement that, painful circumstances notwithstanding, Jesus does all things well.”

And that realization is usually followed by great rejoicing as we are reminded once again that we can always, ALWAYS trust Him no matter what.  So this recent and very real experience of our FMM family members can be used by our wonderful Yeshua to help remind us all to look to Him and Him only regardless of what we experience in life.  Then, like our brother, Paul, we can learn “the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”  (Philippians 4:12)

This month’s mail once again reflects such precious, trusting hearts.  May your hearts be encouraged and your strength renewed as you read and are reminded that in your situation, in your circumstances, you too can trust Him with an airtight, unshakeable faith.

FROM AFRICA:  Dear Dad, There was a woman who was rushed down to the hospital where I was working. I was one of the doctors who examined her and gave her only 3 hours to live. The poor illiterate husband that had only been saved two months from heathen darkness when heard this news, started to pray and asked other believers to pray together for his wife. When I walked to the room the next morning there was the woman—perfectly whole. Yeshua Never Fails. I know It’s God’s will to heal my brother Mac. Only let us believe. All things are very possible!
