Our beloved fellow Last Days Disciples, this new series of articles is titled “Marching Orders for the Stephen Generation” and its purpose is to enhance our understanding of what we Last Days Disciples can expect in the coming days… and what our Father has already provided for us in the midst of everything and anything we may face. This series will strengthen and solidify the firm foundation of Truth that Holy Spirit has been imparting to our FMM family and will increase our resolve to fulfill the exhortation we find in Ephesians 6:10-18 (TLV):
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you are able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the worldly forces of this darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist when the times are evil, and after you have done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm then! Buckle the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. Strap up your feet in readiness with the Good News of shalom. Above all, take up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Ruach on every occasion, with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, keep alert with perseverance and supplication for all the kedoshim.”
We begin with the Original Marching Orders to bring into focus the enhancements found in the Marching Orders for the Stephen Generation. And the reason for that ‘upgrade’ given to us by the Ruach HaKodesh is because we live in uncharted territory… generations before us never faced the kind of things we do. They could not have conceived civilizations slowly self- destructing after decades of demonically inspired lies and deception. Those who lived during the days of great revivals and outpourings of the Spirit would never have imagined how those fires could have died down to smoldering embers.
So knowing how much the written and Living Word has revealed about the Last Days, I exhort you to take seriously the level of equipping this series offers as we work together to advance the Kingdom of our God and prepare for the coming of His beloved Son.

Marching Orders for
The Stephen Generation
(Updated adaptation made in 2021)
The Lord gave me the original ‘Marching Orders’ in the summer of 1988. Soon afterward, He started sending the downloads for what would eventually develop into the material that the Ultimate Journey Ministry shares so successfully today with those who participate in that ministry’s support group disciple training.
But after the Lord gave me the new assignment of cooperating with Him in giving birth to this current Follow Me Ministry, the Marching Orders are just as pertinent and necessary as ever. Only now we’ve updated them to reflect the atmosphere and urgency in which the Last Days disciples of today will be required to operate.
I call these Last Days Special Forces Disciples: ‘The Stephen Generation’, because they will finish constructing the ‘Highway in the Wilderness’ that will prepare the way for the Return of our risen Messiah. (See Isa. 40). And they will do it amid some extremely difficult and often dangerous circumstances… regardless of the cost to them. So they’ll have to do their work while resisting and opposing the forces of Darkness when the age-old war between Good and Evil reaches the zenith level of its intensity.
And since they’ll have to learn to persevere in their service to the Lord in dire and apparently impossible situations, they will be very aware of the fact that only the actual Presence of the risen Lord will be able to see them through. They will have to know what the disciple Stephen (in chapters 6 and 7 of the book of Acts) knew, and do what he did when it was his time to render his unforgettable service.
The Stephen Generation will have to be prepared and equipped to maintain the supernatural martyrs’ mindset focus that the valiant, unstoppable, disciple Stephen maintained and displayed, during his final moments on Earth. Nothing could deter or stop him or the other martyrs! The martyrs embody the unstoppable courage and Covenant faithfulness that the Lord Himself displayed while He agonized on the cross. And, like them, the authentic Last Days disciples will be equipped to embody His courage and fidelity as well. So the training true disciples receive is of vital importance. And that training is what these meditations are meant to help us unpack, explore, absorb, digest, and… embody… as we go through our ‘boot camp’ preparatory stages.

Meditation #4
The ‘God Bringers’
“The one who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat with My Father on His throne!” (Revelation 3:21 TLV)
“Get yourself up on a high mountain, you who bring good news to Zion! Lift up your voice with strength, you who bring Good News to Jerusalem! Lift it up! Do not fear! Say to the cities of Judah: “BEHOLD YOUR GOD!” (Isaiah 40:9 TLV, Emphasis added)
Beloved, are you able to see what Stephen saw in the Spirit? His earthly eyes and ears were only capable of seeing and hearing the enraged murderous turmoil that his words had aroused in the mob that surrounded him. But he also had another way of ‘seeing and hearing.’ He had Spirit-imparted Covenant eyes and ears to supplement his natural equipment. So, despite the earthly clamor, the inner focus of his spiritual faith remained fully riveted upon Someone whose Presence was radiating stupendous Brilliance, Authority, Power and overwhelming Preeminence! Thus the One with whom Stephen was abiding in his heart, blotted out all of that temporary earthly static and interference roiling about in his surroundings! The Perfect Eternal Presence of his risen Lord who, by the Spirit’s Power, was abiding inside of his innermost being, overwhelmed every created person or circumstance within and around Stephen! The Eternal Champion and Victor over all Evil was already one with him, abiding in His spirit! And, therefore, nothing temporal that was swirling around his body mattered to him in the least!
Stephen truly had mastered the art and skill of keeping his mind focused on things above… and on the One within! And this Reality is what he was continually drawing from and taking into himself! The more he had practiced doing it, the more it multiplied and became more and more preeminent within him! So keep this in mind when your circumstances prompt you to ask yourself the following questions:
“How will I possibly be able to overcome all of the demonic opposition, tribulation and temptation about which my Heavenly Father has so clearly warned us?”
“What exactly does the ‘Full Armor of God’ look, sound, and feel like? How would I put it on, and make sure it stays on, in the midst of a fight? And what will I be able to expect from the protection this Armor is intended to provide?”
“How can I overcome the demonic enemies that have such an overwhelming advantage in earthly finances and resources, and the number of angry, malevolent, demonically deceived people that they keep sending against us?”
Well, now you have the answer. The ‘Full Armor’ that God provides for us isn’t anything created, like an actual earthly suit of armor. The Full Armor is – THE CREATOR OF ALL THINGS HIMSELF… the Infinitely Perfect Living Word of God, our risen Messiah Yeshua! Yes, the Armor the Holy Spirit speaks of is a Divine Person… the Living Word… who created and sustains all things. He never wavers or changes! Now you have the right and obligation to identify with Him. Put Him on yourself! Wear Him as your Covering! Arm yourself with His overwhelming, invincible Glory! OWN THE REALITY OF IT!
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! (Matthew 23:37 TLV, Emphasis added)
Learn To See Yourself As God Sees You
You come under the Lord’s Covering by Identifying with Him and realizing you’re one with Him by God’s Eternal Blood Covenant! So identify with Him, become one with Him, just as much as He has identified and made Himself to be one with you! Identify with Him over and over and over again, until His Presence actually infuses and permeates your brand-new personal disciple identity!
When you learn to practice doing this, you will be seeing yourself exactly as Father sees you! When He looks at you, He sees His risen Son in you, and He sees you in His risen Son! So, if and when you learn to have the same mind as God, and identify with Yeshua, you too will be able to bring His Presence with you; and wherever you go, you will know Yeshua is in you, and you are in Yeshua… regardless of what else may be going on! Beloved, nothing that is created can hold a candle to the overwhelming Brilliance of the One who is the Lord of Glory and the Light of the world! So make sure He is your perpetual Covering and Armament and indwelling LIFE!
“At that time Yeshua said in response, “I praise You, Father, Lord of Heaven and of Earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and discerning, AND REVEALED THEM TO INFANTS! Yes, Father, for this way was pleasing to You.
“ALL THINGS HAVE BEEN HANDED OVER TO ME BY MY FATHER! No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. COME TO ME, all who are weary and burdened, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST!
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and ‘you will find rest for your souls.’ For My yoke is easy and My burden is light!” (Matthew 11:25-30 TLV, Emphasis added)
The worldly sophisticated, ‘know-it-all’ people who insist on feeding on the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (the ‘I’ll Do It My Way’ Tree), keep choosing Death over Life! Moreover, they take it upon themselves to judge, demean, and reject God’s Word, and those who serve Him, in favor of their own understanding, hunches, feelings and homemade alternate ‘solutions.’ The angry mob surrounding Stephen was made up of such people! Although they considered themselves to be extremely religious and spiritually brilliant, in their own eyes, they were actually totally blind, clueless, and unable to recognize their own Messiah! Instead of falling at His feet, they had recently rejoiced over His crucifixion and death! And that’s why they were also blind to His Presence within Stephen!
So do you see what keeps driving our enemies? Instead of embracing Yeshua and submitting to Him themselves, the Darkness in which they remain enshrouded forces them to become murderously angry at those who, like Stephen, are actually ‘wearing Him’ the way earthly warriors are covered in their armor. As long as you ‘own’ your Messiah-in-you identity, it will never ‘fall off’ in the heat of battle!
Take note of how Paul described himself as he remembered the way he himself used to be before he believed and repented. He had actually been one of the ringleaders of that enraged mob that killed Stephen! And with that in mind, Paul later revealed this about himself in the following letter:
“If anyone else thinks he might depend on the flesh, I far more—circumcised the eighth day; of the nation of Israel; from the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the Torah, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting Messiah’s community; as for Torah righteousness, found blameless.
“But whatever things were gain to me, these I have considered as loss for the sake of the Messiah. More than that, I consider all things to be loss in comparison to the surpassing value of the knowledge of Messiah Yeshua my Lord.
“Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things; and I consider them garbage in order that I might gain Messiah and be found in Him not having my righteousness derived from Torah, but one that is through trusting in Messiah—the righteousness from God based on trust.
“My aim is to know Him and the Power of His Resurrection and the sharing of His sufferings, becoming like Him (one with Him) in His death—if somehow I might arrive at the Resurrection from among the dead.” (Philippians 3:4b-11 TLV, Amplification and emphasis added)
After Paul came to know His Messiah for himself, he realized what Stephen’s secret had been. Stephen had become the image and likeness of Yeshua. The Lord was now his Identity! He was embodying Yeshua’s Presence during the events that filled his last day on Earth! So, just as the Father had lived in and worked in and through His Son Yeshua, when He was demonstrating the New Covenant Spirit-empowered lifestyle before His fledgling disciples, so had the Holy Spirit caused Yeshua’s Resurrection Presence to be alive, present and dynamically active in Stephen! So Saul finally realized that Stephen had been sustained and energized by the Living Word of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob! And that’s why he was able to face death so fearlessly and lay down his earthly life so nobly. Despite the death of his temporary body, Stephen KNEW that His Lord’s Eternal Resurrection Life was already in His eternal spirit, and nothing in all of existence would ever be able to take that away from him!
The Spirit caused Yeshua to become one with Stephen, and, because Stephen learned to identify with and embody Him in return, the Lord was able to speak and act in and through Stephen’s yielded, faith-empowered flesh! So Stephen wasn’t being required to face the mob and ‘do something for God.’ It wasn’t up to him to take charge of the situation and exert supreme self-effort to ‘help out’ His risen Lord! God wasn’t watching from a vantage point in Heaven to see how Stephen was going to perform.
No, God’s Living Word and Holy Spirit were right there, as promised, working in and through this precious beloved disciple! And Stephen, according to the training he had received from the apostles of Messiah Yeshua, was allowing God to be GOD… TO HIM… IN HIM, AND… THROUGH HIM! It was the Lord Himself who pulled through for Stephen, but Stephen was required to be present in order to cooperate and interact with His Lord. So in baseball terms, thanks to Stephen’s ability to trust and rest and rely upon Him, the risen Lord carried Stephen to first, second, and third base… and then He took him all the way across Home plate, and into total Eternal Victory!
So realize that none of what happened throughout the book of Acts, including the events of chapters 6, 7 and 8, was primarily originating with Stephen or the other disciples. Everything was originated by and in the One upon whom they had been taught and trained to rest, rely and depend! Father’s Holy Spirit was the Primary Agent who was doing for them what Father sends Him to do for us all!
“Adonai your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst—from your brothers. To Him you must listen! This is just what you asked of Adonai your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly when saying, ‘I cannot continue to hear the Voice of Adonai my God or see this great Fire anymore, or I will die.’
“Adonai said to me, ‘They have done well in what they have spoken. I will raise up a Prophet like you for them from among their brothers (the very One who interacted and spoke with your forefathers from Mt. Sinai in the days of Moses). I will put My Words in his mouth (once again), and He will speak to them, all that I command him. Now (this time however,) whoever does not listen to My Words that this Prophet speaks in My Name, I Myself will call him to account!” (Deuteronomy 18:15-19 TLV, Amplification and emphasis added)
In keeping with God’s Eternal Blood Covenant, He sends His Spirit to abide within us. And by His omnipotent Power, the Spirit renders present the Perfect Resurrection Presence of our Lord Yeshua. And in this way, God’s Living Resurrected Word is able to abide in, and act from within, the disciples’ spirits! Yes, the Spirit transmits whatever pertains to Yeshua, into the spirits of His Covenant friends, making Him to be fully present and real and fruitfully alive and connected to them, and perceivable through them! This is why it can be said that when He is our Life… we are His Body!
Thus, by the obedience of our faith, we can allow His Living world-changing Presence to soak into us! And He can thus reveal Himself to others through us! This is how Yeshua, God’s Living Word, can actually be made flesh again… in and through those who belong wholeheartedly to Him! And this is how He can obey His Father and do what Father sends Him to be and do on the Earth… in our name! And this is what Paul later realized that he had unknowingly been witnessing, when he was part of that angry rabble of murderous religious thugs!
“For I will take you from the nations, and gather you from all the lands; and I will bring you into your own land. Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new (God-infused) spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you and bring it about that you walk in My statutes, and are careful to follow My ordinances!” (Ezekiel 36:24-27 TLV,Amplification and emphasis added)
So we’re digging deeper and deeper into how well Stephen learned the lessons that the apostles had been teaching to the new, post-Ascension disciples. The apostles had personally watched the Lord demonstrate the Spirit-empowered Life before their eyes, in a great variety of daily situations, events, trials, and challenging need-filled emergencies! They watched their Master drawing continually from the Life-giving Breath that Father was continually breathing into His Son’s yielded human flesh. Father was imparting His own Spirit into the human flesh of His beloved Son. And the Spirit kept Yeshua in direct personal contact with His Father, who was Yeshua’s sole Source for everything. He continually received whatever He needed, in every situation, from the Spirit of His Father!
And this is what the emissaries were now able to do, and this awesome New Covenant God-Connection Reality is what they were teaching and passing on to their trainee disciples. And so what Yeshua had done during His time on Earth… He was now able to do again, in, though, and as, disciples like Stephen!
Living Out The Messiah-In-Me Pattern
“I can do nothing on My own. Just as I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, for I do not seek My own will, but the will of the One who sent Me.” (John 5:30 TLV, Emphasis added)
This is what we see Stephen living out in Acts chapter 6 during the days leading up to his death. He had been practicing this ‘Messiah-in-me’ pattern throughout his every mundane activity and personal interaction in daily life. He learned to do what every other Spirit-filled disciple is expected to do. He was trained to do it while going through his personal boot camp training tending to the care and feeding of the Spirit-filled widows in the midst of the ever-growing Community of Spirit-filled new disciples. Amid those important duties, Stephen practiced interacting with His indwelling Lord at all times, regardless of what might have been going on in this mundane world throughout each passing day!
Beloved, Stephen was learning to use every event and situation of his life as a training tool to teach himself to live as one with His risen Lord. He interacted with His Lord’s Indwelling Presence all the while he was serving the disciple community! He learned to receive from the Lord whatever he needed – life, breath, strength, wisdom, guidance, direction, instructions, protection, strategy, and provisions of all kinds. It didn’t matter what the order of each passing day required. No matter what it was, Stephen used all of those events and situations to practice allowing the risen Lord to live and act through him so that God would be brought into his surroundings through his flesh.
And the Lord was thus continually supplying, and Stephen was continually receiving, whatever the Lord desired to provide, and say, and do, from within him. The Word and Spirit of God continually led, and Stephen was always following! That is the lifestyle that disciples, who are going to be worthy of that title, must now learn to live while they still have time to learn it!
“So I tell you this, indeed I insist on it in the Lord—walk no longer as the pagans do, stumbling around in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the Life of God because of the ignorance in them due to the hardness of their heart. Since they are past feeling, they have turned themselves over to (Self-adoring and Self-indulging) indecency for the practice of every kind of immorality, with greed for more.
“However, you did not learn Messiah in this way—if indeed you have heard Him and were taught in Him, as the Truth is IN YESHUA! With respect to your former lifestyle, you are to lay aside the old self corrupted by its deceitful desires, be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self—created to be like God (one with God) in true Righteousness and Holiness!” (Ephesians 4:17-24 TLV, Amplification and emphasis added)
When the time came for Stephen to make the supreme sacrifice in His Lord’s service, he was fully prepared and equipped – spiritually, mentally, and emotionally – to deal with, and overcome, whatever his situations would require. God’s Spirit and Stephen were one working ‘unit.’ The Spirit’s Power, working through the obedience of Stephen’s faith, brought the Perfect Presence of Father’s risen Word into even the minutest everyday events, situations, and interactions that Stephen was allowed and commissioned to experience!
And because Stephen learned to receive this Blessing from the Holy Spirit on a continuous basis, he was always equipped and ‘loaded’ and ready for action, at all times! His ‘lamp of testimony’ was always filled with Holy Spirit Oil! And that’s why he was ready to usher in the Presence of God’s Living Word into his final moments on this earth.
“I still have much more to tell you, but you cannot handle it just now. But when the Spirit of Truth comes, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL THE TRUTH. HE WILL NOT SPEAK ON HIS OWN; BUT WHATEVER HE HEARS, HE WILL TELL YOU! And He will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify Me, because HE WILL TAKE FROM WHAT IS MINE AND DECLARE IT TO YOU. Everything that the Father has is Mine. For this reason I SAID THE RUACH WILL TAKE FROM WHAT IS MINE AND DECLARE IT TO YOU!” (John 16:12-15 TLV, Emphasis added)
“Therefore, having been made righteous by trusting, we have Shalom with God through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. Through Him we also have gained ACCESS BY FAITH into this grace in which we stand and boast in the hope of God’s Glory. And not only that, but we also boast in suffering—knowing that suffering (while we are embodying our risen Lord) produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint, because God’s Love has been poured into our hearts through the Ruach ha-Kodesh (Holy Spirit) who was given to us.” (Romans 5:1-5 TLV, Amplification and emphasis added)
“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in Heaven is great! For in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12 TLV)
God Himself, living in and through Stephen, was interacting with those murderous religious thugs. But because they insisted on rejecting the Presence of His spiritual Reality, that was lovingly reaching out to pierce their hearts, they continued to focus on Stephen’s natural earthly appearance. And they judged him according to what their fallen, Sin-corrupted souls were leading them to assume.
Nevertheless, the Holy Spirit, speaking through Stephen, was giving them a review of their past history with God. The Spirit had led Stephen into that hornet’s nest of hostile religious opposition to the Gospel! And the Spirit was empowering him to abide as one with His risen Lord, Yeshua, throughout that entire ordeal, knowing that the seeds of future salvation were, even now, being sown into those men!
God’s Living Word was thus sustaining Stephen before his opponents while continuing to reveal His Reality to those who surrounded Stephen. And the Spirit enshrined Stephen’s faithfulness in the Disciples ‘Hall of Fame’ that honors all of the awesome disciples of God’s Word who have learned to live or die by faith and not by sight:
“These all died in faith without receiving the things promised—but they saw them and welcomed them from afar, and they confessed that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth. For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If indeed they had been thinking about where they had come from, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they yearn for a Better Land—that is, a Heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a City for them!” (Hebrews 11:13-16 TLV,Emphasis added)
God Himself is ‘The Homeland’ and ‘The City’! And His Living Word is the ‘Full Armor of God’ and the ‘Sword of the Spirit’! The Living Word was the Protection and Fire Power with which the Spirit was covering and equipping Stephen! And so Stephen was empowered to remain continually and faithfully focused on his risen Lord, rather than on his troubles. Nothing deterred him because the Spirit was causing Yeshua and Stephen to be and act as one. Stephen knew that this was so, and he fully cooperated!
So note this well: Stephen KNEW he was always one with His risen Lord! And the assurance of that oneness is what equipped him to serve as a ‘God Bringer’ on behalf of those he encountered in daily life… including those who were about to kill him!
“Now Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great (Resurrection-confirming) wonders and signs among the people. But some men from what was called the Synagogue of the Freedmen—both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, as well as some from Cilicia and Asia—stood up and began arguing with Stephen. But they could not withstand the Wisdom and the Ruach(Breath of God) by whom he was speaking!” (Acts 6:8-10 TLV, Amplification and emphasis added)
So, Dear Ones,
Please ‘Jackhammer’ The Following Facts Into Your Brain:
“Then Yeshua said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his (radically independent Self-) life will lose it, but WHOEVER LOSES HIS (natural Self-) LIFE FOR MY SAKE WILL FIND IT! (IN ME)!” (Matthew 16:24-25 TLV, Amplification and emphasis added)
“Do not grieve the Ruach ha-Kodesh of God, by whom you were sealed for the Day of Redemption (Resurrection).” (Ephesians 4:30 TLV, Amplification and emphasis added)
These are the things that Paul was later inspired to explain and teach to other saints throughout the first century Roman Empire. He described the Spirit-empowered lifestyle that Yeshua had originally been demonstrating to His disciples before His death. The Lord was always interacting with the Spirit of His Father while the disciples watched and stored that pattern away in their brains for future reference.
Only after they were baptized into the Holy Spirit, were the apostles equipped to live in the same Spirit-empowered way they had seen their Master live before them.
“After being immersed, Yeshua rose up out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Ruach Elohim descending like a dove and coming upon Him!” (Matthew 3:16 TLV, Emphasis added)
“Then Yeshua was led by the Ruach into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” (Matthew4:1 TLV, Emphasis added)
This is the Spirit-led lifestyle that the emissaries of Yeshua learned for themselves. Then they began to teach and demonstrate it to Stephen and other saints who had also been immersed into the Holy Spirit. Stephen practiced, and rehearsed and eventually mastered it and so he was thus prepared for the moment when it was time for the Spirit to lead him into the Arena of Testimony:
“Have this attitude in yourselves, which also was in Messiah Yeshua, Who, though existing in the form of God, did not consider being equal to God a thing to be grasped. But He emptied Himself—taking on the form of a slave, becoming the likeness of men and being found in appearance as a man. He humbled Himself—becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
