In Acts 3, Peter and John had been recently baptized into the Holy Spirit. And what they transformed into afterward, was light years removed from what they had been previously. For one thing, they were no longer intimidated by Israel’s spiritual elite, as they’d been prior to the Lord’s death and resurrection:
“Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus. And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply. But when they had ordered them to leave the Council, they began to confer with one another, saying, “What are we to do with these men? For the fact that a noteworthy miracle has taken place through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it will not spread any further among the people, let’s warn them not to speak any longer to any person in this name.”
And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, make your own judgment; for WE CANNOT STOP SPEAKING ABOUT WHAT WE HAVE SEEN AND HEARD!” When they had threatened them further, they let them go (finding no basis on which to punish them) on account of the people, because they were all glorifying God for what had happened…” (Acts 4:13-21)
Notice that the disciples now had ‘the high ground’ and the initiative. And the so-called religious leaders were in a reactionary ‘backpedaling’ mode. And we see a Spirit-empowered apostolic-level proclamation of the risen Lord that Holy Spirit was equipping Peter and John to deliver. They were no longer looking for somewhere to hide. Nor were they Self-absorbed and intent on Self-preservation. Now they were formidable Love-inflamed servants of their Lord… advancing and taking more and more ground! They exuded great authority and power because now they only had eyes for their indwelling risen Lord! And Yeshua, upon whom their minds and hearts were now firmly riveted, was being reflected back out into their surroundings. Yes, now they were equipped to embody the Reality of the risen Lord of Glory. And that threw their hyper-religious opponents into a state of total confusion!
So God’s Holy Spirit was giving His ‘Welcome to the New Covenant’ introduction to Israel’s leaders who were still stuck in their traditional Self-improving ‘Sinai Covenant’ mindset. And we also see the beginning of that constant intense power struggle that has been spreading all around the world ever since! And now that we’re in this Last Days era, the power struggle is picking up speed and hurtling toward its fast-approaching grand climax. Today’s worldly secular political and religious establishments continue to react to Messiah Yeshua and His Gospel with fear, suspicion, violent antagonism and murderous resentment. Stephen’s Messiah-exalting death in Acts chapter 7 was the first New Covenant Era example of this long-term New Covenant conflict. And as soon as the Lord, through Peter, healed that crippled man at the entrance to the temple, Peter and the Lord’s disciples began to proclaim that their risen Lord, Yeshua, was the one who had done this marvelous healing! So now we see that disciples had the authority and power to PROVE that the risen Lord was actually present and living and operating from within them!
Yes, the very one these religious leaders had recently crucified, was once again actually present in their midst… healing and doing the things they’d seen Him do before His death! Only now He was doing it through the obedient faith of His Spirit-empowered disciples! So the reality that Yeshua’s Presence was accompanying Peter and John suddenly threw these worldly ‘upper crust’ types into a panic. They instinctively realized that their long-standing authority and power over the people was now in great jeopardy!
And worldly leaders from each succeeding generation react against Yeshua in the same way and for the very same reason. They instinctively strive to stamp out whoever continues to proclaim Yeshua’s Presence, Reality and Truth in their hearing. And as the end of this age approaches, the world’s violent opposition will surely exceed anything that has ever taken place before!
Equipping the Disciples of the Risen Lord
So I’d like to point out the specific manner in which God has equipped and empowered His Son’s chosen disciples to respond to the murderous threats the world keeps throwing against them. We are truly fully equipped to endure and overcome whatever the enemy may throw against us! Our Heavenly Father has given us everything we need to be an invincible, unstoppable Heavenly Invasion Force that the spiritual demonic powers of Darkness have good reason to dread and fear! We can know God intimately and interact personally with Him… as He really IS! Our awesome devoted Blood Covenant Friend and Champion, who poured Himself out entirely for our sake, now abides and operates from within us! And He’s ready to inject Himself into every situation, challenge, crisis, and danger we encounter! And as long as we remain free of our former obsession with Self, we’ll be free to lovingly behold Him, as He is, while He abides and reveals Himself and does what only He can do, from within us!
So, with proper training and preparation, we can be fully armed, fortified, and prepared to resist, withstand, and overcome anyone or anything that would dare to come against us and try to stop our ‘God-Bringing’ Invasion! We can see numerous examples of how this works throughout God’s written Word. But for now, let’s focus on two of them that show how God’s awesome unseen Kingdom that we’re authorized to represent and display, is now able to work in our midst. When we know our God, as He really is, we have no need to obsess over our own flesh and selfish fears and interests, or any other created, temporary being, circumstance, or thing! God’s Living Word, who lives and operates from within us, holds all other things in His hand! He keeps all of that in existence and provides everything it is and has and is able or not able to do! So instead of fearing creatures, we can afford to remain fully focused on loving and worshipping the Infinite, All-Powerful, Creator and Redeemer, who, thanks to the New Covenant, has become one with us! God can fulfill His every promise to us from within our yielded, believing flesh because now we can contain and reflect the Perfect Presence of God’s Living Word to what is around us, with great accuracy. And we can serve as His fully-protected, ‘armed-to-the teeth’, ‘combat-ready’ Spirit-empowered fellow warriors:
“As soon as they were released, Peter and John went to their own people and reported all that the ruling kohanim (priests) and elders had said to them. When they heard it, they (immediately focused on honoring and worshipping the indwelling Presence of the Lord who was now living within them and then they) lifted their voices together to God and said, “O Sovereign Master, ‘You made Heaven and Earth and the sea, and everything in them.’ You said by the Ruach ha-Kodesh, through the mouth of our father David Your servant, ‘Why did the nations rage and the peoples plot foolish things? The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were gathered together against Adonai and against His Anointed One.’ (that is, they dared to try to oppose the Authority and Power of Your resurrected Messiah, whose Unstoppable, Invincible Presence we carry with us, wherever we go!)
“For truly both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together in this city against Your holy Servant Yeshua, whom You anointed.THEY DID WHATEVER YOUR HAND AND YOUR PURPOSE PREDETERMINED TO HAPPEN. And now, Lord, look at their threats, and GRANT YOUR SERVANTS TO SPEAK YOUR WORD WITH UTMOST COURAGE—WHILE YOU STRETCH OUT YOUR HAND TO HEAL, AND SIGNS AND WONDERS TAKE PLACE THROUGH THE NAME OF YOUR HOLY SERVANT YESHUA!”
When they had prayed, the place where they were gathered was shaken. And they were all filled with the Ruach ha-Kodesh (Holy Spirit) and began to speak the Word of God (embodying Him as He truly is and proclaiming and demonstrating the Reality of His Resurrection) with boldness! (Acts 4:23-31 TLV, Amplification and emphasis added)
Beloved, the differences in assets and fire power between New Covenant Spirit-filled disciples, and the unbelievers that surround them are monumentally spectacular! So I offer this information in the hope that it will help us better understand what I believe was taking place within the disciples mentioned in these texts.
New Covenant Spirit-filled disciples are not of this world! They operate in and from the Kingdom of Heaven even while their bodies remain deployed on Earth! They are not at all like the God-ignoring, radically independent Self-adoring people around them who obsess over worldly events, situations, and their own personal desires and interests amid the temporal matters of their earthly time and space existence. The things Self-adoring worldly people obsess over are very limited and temporary created things. But that’s all they ever have to work with! On the other hand, Spirit-empowered disciples are designed and created to be the true image and likeness of their risen Lord, the Creator and Sustainer of all things! God’s Spirit equips them to actually know and be cared for by their Lord and Master and to interact personally with Him in all of His Majestic Goodness and Redemptive Glory… at all times!
So disciples who remain properly focused exude their Creator’s changeless ever-present, Infinite Nature, and accurately reflect His Character, Disposition and present Activity into this world! They embody God’s airtight Faithfulness, Loyalty, Courage and Perfect Reliable Self-less Love! They overflow with all that comes from Almighty God’s Living Word, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is Perfect, Omnipotent, and Omniscient Love on every level and in all that He is and does! And the disciples can reflect and introduce Him into each situation, and they can partake of everything that flows out from Him! So disciples need not think, act and react like Self-absorbed victim-losers, and mere wishful thinking ‘talkers.’ THEY ARE INVINCIBLE UNSTOPPABLE GOD BRINGERS!
Another way of describing this awesome New Covenant Invasion is this: From His Eternal Kingdom in Eternity, God initiated a Perfect Rescue Initiative: He sent His Living Word to Earth to be one of us. Now He serves as our Ultimate Eternal Blood Covenant Representative and Champion. The Word of God contains all the Fullness and Perfection of God in Himself. He is, therefore, Lord of all Creation. And all the Authority in God’s Kingdom and throughout every aspect of the created realms, belongs to Him… exclusively! But He is also fully human, one of us, and, thanks to our Covenant Bond with Him, He is one with us, and we are one with Him!
So the King and Lord of the Kingdom of Heaven is here, abiding within His New Covenant disciples, to invade this fallen world to reclaim and restore His Dominion over all of Creation and over all of His rebellious demonic and human enemies that conspire to rebel against Him.
He is here to lead those humans who are His to total Victory and Freedom and Righteousness and Fellowship with God and full citizenship in His Kingdom and as members of His Personal Family Household! So He appears amid each generation of mankind to announce Himself and His arrival and His redemptive, restorative purpose on their behalf. And He summons all of us to follow Him so He can lead us back into Total Union with His Father:
“From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!” (Matthew 4:8-17 NASB)
Beloved, it’s time for us to become intensely aware of the purpose for which God designed our human makeup and what authority and power He intends for us to exercise throughout this world, in His Name, as members of His Personal Family! We must realize, and own, the fact that we’re fully equipped and commissioned ambassadors of our Master and His Eternal Heavenly Kingdom! It is for the fulfillment of this awesome office and function that we, who are Messiah’s personal disciples, are to be trained! And this is what Peter, John, Paul, and the other first century disciples were trained to be and do. And, after they were fused together with God’s Holy Spirit in Acts 2, God Himself equipped and empowered them to fulfill their New Covenant Last Days commission and calling! This is what we can see happening in and through them throughout Acts chapter 2, and beyond! And so is it to be with us!
The Reality of Our True Identity and Purpose is Unchangeable
Human beings are designed and intended to serve as God’s true, accurate image and likeness. To do that, we must be personally united and devoted to God, abiding in His Presence continually, so that we may behold Him ‘Face to face’, mind to mind, heart to heart, like His true, accurate, living ‘mirrors.’ We are to be filled with Him so we can reflect and embody His character and disposition and walk in His ways. Because we’re reflectors by nature, we fill ourselves with whatever we habitually focus our attention on and regard and concentrate on continually. Whatever we dwell upon, obsess over, or continuously regard fills us with itself. And we embody, reflect, and radiate whatever that is to whatever is around us. But we’re designed, intended and commissioned to serve as reflectors and radiators of God’s Holy Life-Giving Presence and the awesome Heavenly Realities that flow out of Him!
So when you consider any human being, think… ‘Living mirror of Almighty God’… and you’ll be in touch with how God views us, and the purpose for which He made us. And then you’ll better understand why God went to such lengths to save, redeem, purify and reclaim us as His own. The magnificent and powerful inner mental workings of every human being are meant to serve as His living, mobile ‘MIRRORS’ not warped, grossly distorting ‘Fun House’ type mirrors… but true, precisely accurate reflections of Him as He truly is! Our calling and destiny require us to always be filling ourselves with Him! We’re made to focus our attention upon God who is our Shepherd, Protector, Provider and Eternal Life… habitually! So we must remember this:
- “Whatever I think about myself all day and night long, I will eventually become.”
For good or for bad, this is how it works. So if you always focus on yourself, and your own selfish interests and fears, and obsess over what is wrong, negative, evil, selfish, and threatening, you are like a living, walking curse and blight upon this world. You are perpetual ‘bad news’ to whoever may be unfortunate enough to be around you or may have to depend on you. But, if you fill yourself with your risen Lord, and what is good, joyful, peaceful, uplifting, courageous and true about Him, you exude His life-giving, healing, gardening, uplifting atmosphere and influence into every atmosphere, situation, and interaction of which you are a part.
“He (God’s Living Word) is the Image of the Invisible God, the Firstborn of all Creation: for by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible,whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
He is also the Head of the Body, the Church; and He is the Beginning, the Firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have First Place in everything. For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the Fullness (of God) to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.” (Colossians 1:15-30 NASB, Amplification and emphasis added)
“Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance, the race that is set before us, LOOKING ONLY AT JESUS, THE ORIGINATOR AND PERFECTER OF THE FAITH, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (as the Supreme Lord of All, Forever)!” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NASB,Emphasis added)
Beloved, if we keep our conscious attentive interaction focused exclusively and perpetually on our risen Lord, who loved us and gave Himself for us and who now forever dwells within us, we’ll always be filled with His awesome Presence, Reality, and Truth! Like mirrors that are focused on the sun at all times, we’ll be filled with the blazing Light and overpowering Truth of God’s Infinite Eternal Word! Yes, we are created and authorized to fill ourselves with the Excellence that is in the risen Son of God! And we can automatically and naturally radiate Him and all that is in Him, into our everyday situations, circumstances, events and personal relational interactions. So, regardless of what circumstances and situations may be going on around us, as long as we’re reflecting and radiating Him, we bring massive Life-giving change into this poor agonizing world!
“Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery, BUT BE (continually) FILLED WITH THE (Messiah-revealing) SPIRIT (of God), SPEAKING TO ONE ANOTHER IN PSALMS AND HYMNS AND SPIRITUAL SONGS, SINGING AND MAKING MELODY WITH YOUR HEARTS TO THE LORD; ALWAYS GIVING THANKS FOR ALL THINGS IN THE NAME OF (and out from the Presence of) OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST TO OUR GOD AND FATHER; and subject yourselves to one another in the fear of Christ.” (Ephesians 5:17-21 NASB, Amplification and emphasis added)
“REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS; AGAIN I WILL SAY, REJOICE! Let your gentle spirit be known to all people. THE LORD IS NEAR! Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the Peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things. As for the things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of Peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:4-9 NASB.)
So, beloved friends, we need not be victimized or overwhelmed by earthly situations, events and disastrous setbacks! People that obsess over such things and focus continually upon them are hopelessly Self-captivated and doomed to certain defeat and disaster.
But those among us who focus on and fill ourselves with the Infinite Excellence of the Lord who lives within us, will:
The Truth every enemy must know is this: when you try to come against a true disciple… YOU COME AGAINST THE LORD OF GLORY! So… lots of luck with that!

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” These truths and all the others we’ve read and studied continue to build upon the firm foundation of our faith: All that we need – all the time and everywhere is Yeshua.]
“I advise you to buy from Me Gold refined by Fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to apply to your eyes so that you may see. Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I WILL COME IN TO HIM AND WILL DINE WITH HIM, AND HE WITH ME. THE ONE WHO OVERCOMES, I WILL GRANT TO HIM TO SIT WITH ME ON MY THRONE, AS I ALSO OVERCAME AND SAT WITH MY FATHER ON HIS THRONE!” (Revelation 3:18-21 NASB, Emphasis added)
So I offer two examples from Scripture. The first took place during Stephen’s last moments on Earth in Jerusalem. The second happened when Paul and Silas got into deep trouble in the city of Philippi. Each incident took place amid an intensely hostile and deadly dangerous confrontation, during which Holy Spirit was empowering and speaking through New Covenant disciples to the unbelievers that surrounded them at the time:
“But he (Stephen), being full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into Heaven and saw the Glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said, “BEHOLD, I SEE THE HEAVENS OPENED AND THE SON OF MAN STANDING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD!” But they shouted with loud voices and covered their ears and rushed at him with one mind. When they had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him; and the witnesses (that accused Stephen of blasphemy and heresy) laid aside their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul. They went on stoning Stephen as he called on the Lord and said, “LORD JESUS RECEIVE MY SPIRIT!” Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, “LORD, DO NOT HOLD THIS SIN AGAINST THEM!” Having said this, he fell asleep (in the arms of His Lord).” (Acts 7:54-60 NASB,Amplification and emphasis added.
Sometime later Paul and Silas, like Stephen, found themselves in a similar situation. And just like Stephen, these two disciples had also been trained to maintain a military-level disciplined focus on their indwelling Lord, and not upon themselves. And just as He had done for Stephen, so did the Lord cover, guide, protect and take Paul and Silas through the angry firestorm that engulfed them. And He brought them through their ordeals… and into the glow of His Everlasting Victory.
“The crowd joined in an attack against them (Paul and Silas), and the chief magistrates tore their robes off them and proceeded to order them to be beaten with rods. When they had struck them with many blows, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to guard them securely; and he, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.
Now about midnight Paul and Silas were (focusing their minds and hearts on the Lord and interacting with Him who was filling and sustaining them while they were) praying and singing hymns of praise to God (embodying and radiating His glorious Presence into their surroundings), and the prisoners were listening to them; and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s chains were unfastened.
When the jailer awoke and saw the prison doors opened, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, thinking that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul called out with a loud voice, saying, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!” And the jailer asked for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear, he fell down before Paul and Silas and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:22-30 NASB, Amplification and emphasis added.
So beloved, take note of the intense prior training that Holy Spirit had given to Stephen, Paul, Silas and the other New Covenant disciples that successfully fulfilled their commissions! They had cooperated with Holy Spirit by drilling and immersing themselves a deep, unforgettable personal, intimate, interactive-love knowledge of their risen Lord who now abided within them! They disciplined and trained themselves to keep their ‘mental mirrors’ focused solely upon Him… AND TO KEEP THEM FIRMLY FIXED UPON HIM… AND NOT ON THEMSELVES OR OTHER CREATED THINGS, NO MATTER WHAT!
“So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; FOR IT IS GOD WHO IS AT WORK IN YOU, both to desire and to work for His good pleasure!” (Philippians 2:12-13 NASB, Emphasis added)
Owning and Living Out From Yeshua’s Indwelling and Overcoming Presence
And this is what disciples have to draw from whenever they’re suddenly engulfed, taken by surprise, and caught up into the midst of unforeseen deadly combat situations! They trained and ‘rehearsed’ to operate in such conditions to prepare for the time when their Master finally instituted and launched the New Covenant Era. So how do you suppose we Last Days disciples should be training and rehearsing to obey and cooperate with the Lord who lives in us, as He brings everything to the fulfilling, perfect Fruition at the end of this age?
“Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself but must remain in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me. I AM THE VINE, YOU ARE THE BRANCHES; THE ONE WHO REMAINS IN ME, AND I IN HIM BEARS MUCH FRUIT, FOR APART FROM ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING!
If anyone does not remain in Me (as I truly AM), he is thrown away like a branch and dries up; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. MY FATHER IS GLORIFIED BY THIS, THAT YOU BEAR MUCH FRUIT, AND SO PROVE TO BE MY DISCIPLES.” (John 15:4-8 NASB, Emphasis added)
Stephen, Paul, Silas and their contemporary brethren repeatedly trained and drilled to think, imagine, act, react, and interact as one with their indwelling Lord, at all times and in each and every situation and set of circumstances of their lives. So we are not a company of stodgy religious people who sit in venerable old museums, striving to bring back to mind what we can manage to recall from ages past concerning our long gone ‘dead founder.’ No… our Founder and Commander isn’t dead… He is, and always will be, FULLY ALIVE AND PRESENT TO HIS OWN. HE IS ALWAYS ABIDING WITHIN US AND IS FULLY DISCERNIBLE… THROUGH THE OBEDIENCE OF OUR SELFLESS FAITH IN HIM!
We’re prepared and primed to demonstrate His Living Reality at any time and under any circumstances, no matter how critically dire, dangerous, or apparently hopeless the things around us may appear to be! As long as we remain consciously and deliberately locked in and present to Him, He will fill us to overflowing… and we’ll radiate His Reality, Truth, and abiding Presence – outward – in all directions… like a brightly-lit city on a hill… like blazing beacons, giving safety and life-saving assistance to those being imperiled amid the storms of this passing world.
“Behold, these are the wicked; and always at ease, they have increased in wealth. Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and washed my hands in innocence; for I have been stricken all day long and punished every morning. If I had said, “I will speak this way,” behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children. When I thought of understanding this, it was troublesome in my sight UNTIL I ENTERED THE SANCTUARY (of the Abiding Indwelling Presence) OF GOD; THEN (from that perspective) I PERCEIVED THEIR END!
You indeed put them on slippery ground; You dropped them into ruin. How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors! Like a dream when one awakes, Lord, when stirred, You will despise their image.
When my heart was embittered, and I was pierced within, then I was stupid and ignorant; I was like an animal (a brute beast) before You. Nevertheless I am (now trained and fully equipped to abide) continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand. You will guide me with Your plan, and afterward(You will) receive me to (a full eternal share in Your) Glory!” (Psalm 73:12-24 NASB, Amplification and emphasis added)
Dear ones… hardwire and reprogram yourselves with the response pattern we’ve considered here. Do it with massive repetition! Be ready for action when the ‘bullets start to fly.’ Be ready to respond from the deeply engrained habitual Total Victor identity that God’s All-Authoritative Living Word is within us! It’s not a victory we must strive to attain. It’s our birthright… our God-given identity! IT IS GOD HIMSELF IN US! And when we’re trained to ‘own’ this Truth and keep ourselves mentally and emotionally filled with it… we become formidable, invincible Heavenly ‘Firearms’ that Holy Spirit can use to blast our demonic enemies.
